Emotional Freedom Technique
Medical science has established that up to 85% of physical issues has an emotional component/s. The rationale behind this technique is that events happen (or memories occur), which may disrupt a person’s normal energy flow and emotional state. The disruption may be physical, emotional or a combination of the two.
EFT Tapping is a meridian-based energy therapy that combines the ancient science of acupuncture (but without the needles) and modern clinical psychology. It makes use of tapping (with fingers) on well-identified meridian points to address both physical and emotional issues.
Published scientific and clinical research has shown that by tapping on established meridian points in the body and simultaneously focusing on (1) the events or memories experienced, (2) physical symptoms sensed, (3) long-standing beliefs and (4) emotions being felt in the body – the discomforting charge felt by the body may be reduced, even totally taken away, providing the subject with relief from any physical or emotional discomfort felt – and allowing increased focus and concentration.
EFT Tapping was originally developed in the US in the early 1980’s by an American clinical psychologist, Dr. Roger Callahan, who was dabbling in the meridian sciences (acupuncture, acupressure and reflexology) at the time and accidentally discovered it while treating a female patient with an extreme phobia of water. Dr. Callahan was using it only for phobias. One of his students however, Gary Craig, refined the technique, gave it its current name, documented case after case – beyond mere phobias – and built the original movement behind it.
